Jesus Christ Speeches

Sermon on the Mount

Jesus Christ Speeches: Sermon on the Mount is one of the most famous and powerful sermons preached. Spoken to a crowd in the Mount of Olives, it has become a timeless message that has impacted many worldwide.

The Context of the Sermon on the Mount

The Sermon on the Mount forms the basis of Christian behavior and core values, where Jesus teaches Christians proper conduct and beliefs that are central to Christianity.

It was preached on a mount near the north end of the Sea of Galiliee. The sermon takes place early in the ministry of Jesus around 30 AD, and it happened soon after Jesus was baptized by John the baptist.

Today 2000 years later, it is  still one of the most quoted passages in the Bible and considered by many to be the most outstanding sermon to be delivered by Jesus.

The Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5: 3- 11 (‘The Beatitudes’)

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Matthew 6: 9 -13 (‘The Lord’s Prayer)

After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen.
